Metro Design Center started its humble beginnings on the south side of Bethlehem in the mid 1940s as Metro Products. Sidney Hausman started Metro on his return to civilian life after World War II. He started as a retailer of readymade slip covers and drapery. Through the sixty some years, Jerome Hausman, Sidney’s brother, has evolved Metro into what it has become today.

Today, Metro has become a full service interior design firm. We pride ourselves on providing an in house fabric workroom, where any style of widow treatment, slipcover or reupholstered furniture can be produced. The workroom prides itself on the ability to make one of a kind creations. Our selection of fabrics is endless and divine ranging from the subdued to the outrages. If our clients can picture it we can make it.

Metro over the last 40 years has expanded into furniture and floorcovering. Our interior designers pride themselves with the finest collection of furniture manufacturers in the world. We select your furniture from the likes of Henredon, Century, Thayer Coggin, Leathercraft and many more. These pieces come in an array of designs from the traditional to the on edge contempary. Again the selection of fabrics is endless. Our own in house delivery service handles the furniture with the respect it deserves.

Floorcovering has taken on a life of its own at Metro. We pride ourselves on the largest in house staff of installers. Our crew is 100% certified by INSTALL, a national organization of flooring representatives. Our Karastan Gallery allows our residential clients a large selection of area rugs and wall to wall carpets. Our installers can handle any job from the small bedroom up to an entire high rise office building.

Our last but most important part of our formula is our interior designers. This professional staff can assist in any project from the design of a small den to the space layout of a large office complex. We have the tools and know how to complete a successful project.

Metro has come a long way in sixty years. We have never forgotten our roots and our commitment to first class service that was started by Uncle Sidney in the 1940’s.
